Surprise! Activist group upset with MadWorld on Wii

A British pressure group has expressed discontent over Sega's hyper-violent MadWorld, particularly because it's exclusive to the family-friendly Wii.
Blood is underscored in MadWorld through the use of monochrome graphics
"I believe it will spoil the family fun image of the Wii," said John Beyer, director of Mediawatch-uk, in an interview with the Daily Mail published Tuesday. "I hope the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) will view this with concern and decide it should not be granted a classification."
Last year, the BBFC denied classification of another violent Wii game, Manhunt 2, effectively banning it from release in the U.K. In response, Rockstar censored the U.K. version of the game to appease the BBFC, resulting in its later release.
According to the Daily Mail, the Wii has enjoyed massive success as an "innocent alternative" to the more complex and mature games found on Xbox 360 and PS3, so it's a bit of a surprise that MadWorld is exclusive to Wii.
In any case, Sega is standing behind its decision to release the game on Wii. "MadWorld pushes the envelope with its extreme content but takes a step away from the dark and serious nature of most mature games," explains Sean Ratcliffe, VP of marketing at Sega. "With its irreverent humour and over-the-top violence, MadWorld delivers a visceral gaming experience that will be an instant classic on the Wii."
Nintendo, for it's part, is happy to cater to a broad range of players, including those seeking more violent games. "Wii appeals to a wide range of audiences from children and teenagers to adult and senior citizens, anyone from 5 - 95, as such there is a wide range of content for all ages and tastes available," a spokesman told the Daily Mail.
But the company who has always been sensitive to violence also wants the world to know it's not making the game. "The game is not made by Nintendo but by Sega," the representative concluded.
MadWorld is a third-person hack and slash game that follows a beefy brute named Jack, with a chainsaw for an arm, as he competes in a violent TV show. The game is set for release on Wii in early 2009.

They know the Wii's core group are senior citizens and little kids. It is an ambitious move for Sega to move the wii out of the little kids room and into the big boys room but this is the type of reprecussions its going to face. Look at what happened to Manhunt 2( shit game), a little protest and rockstar started to edit the game down.

Why do people get so upset about a game with violence but not movies I really don't think it's fair to gamers. If a parent thinks a game is too violent for their child then don't buy it. Most games now cost about $60 and I doubt a 7 or 8 year old has that kind of money and most stores card you when you buy an M-rated game anyway. So what;s the problem.
