Some atheists upset because Spore recognizes religion

Not only should religion have no place in the classroom, it shouldn't be allowed in video games either, say some outspoken Spore critics.

"I believe in Science," Eskeleto says.

"I didn't expect to hit hot buttons on the atheist side," said The Sims and Spore creator Will Wright, in an interview with Eurogamer published today.

"I expected it on the religious side. But so far I've had no critical feedback at all from anybody who is religious feeling that we were misrepresenting religion or it was bad to represent religion in the game. It was really the atheists," he said.

Spore is an evolutionary simulation game that introduces the idea of religion during the civilization stage of the game, the act of which some "militant atheists" take issue with, says Wright, a self-described atheist himself.

But any hoping for an underlying agenda in the game won't find one, says Wright, adding the several religious developers worked on the game.

"We leave the whole creation of the universe question open," he said. "Obviously as the player you're coming in and playing something like a god, directing the evolution of a species, but we never really state who you the player are."

The highly-anticipated Spore arrives on PC and Nintendo DS on September 5.

WTF, who cares. Gaming doesn't need this s***. You don't hear them *****ing about games like God or War, Assassin's Creed, or any other game that has any sort of religion in it (which there are a whole lot of them that have some sort of religion).[p] Gaming doesn't need this s***. We game to escape the real world, so these people need to stop bringing real world problems into gaming, and realize that it's just a damn game. So it leaves the question of religion open, who cares? These people can learn to deal with it. It's just a damn game after all.[p] They're just pissed off because it doesn't one sidedly push their own agenda. Well boo-hoo. Cry me a ****ing river.
