Game Critics announce 'best of E3' game nominees

Representing 46 titles from 21 publishers, these are the cream of the playable E3 crop, according to the Game Critics Awards.

As voted by a distinguished panel of judges, "Best of Show" nominees include Fallout 3 (PS3, 360, PC), Gears of War 2 (360), LittleBigPlanet (PS3), Mirror's Edge (PS3, 360, PC -- my pick), and Spore (PC).

Overall, Little Big Planet took home the most nominees with five, followed by Gears of War 2 and Left 4 Dead with four apiece. Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, Resistance 2, and Spore each garnered three nominations, and Chrono Trigger DS, Dragon Age: Origins, Resident Evil 5, Rock Band 2, and Warhammer 40000 each took home two.

In terms of nominees by publisher, Electronic Arts had the most with 21 nominations, followed by Sony Computer Entertainment with 11, and Microsoft Game Studios with seven. Nintendo took home only three nominees, down from eight in 2007.

Winners from all 15 categories will be announced on Tuesday, August 5. The full list of nominees is as follows:

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar Valve's pedigree notwithstanding, Left 4 Dead is a riot. Not the most original game, but coop, fast-action, and zombie-killing bliss.

I DL GoW2 E2 game play demo yesterday and it is shaping up to look better than the original. The level that was shown didn't have the massive amount of enemies that was rumored but has bunch of new enemies. Can't wait till 11/07/08.

Nintendo usuall has some of the highest ranking games at E3 but this year was a complete failure. I don't dislike Nintendo, just don't think the wii is anything I should own.
