Halo game E3 no-show 'no laughing matter,' Bungie says

Bungie president Harold Ryan told Eurogamer Thursday that the Halo title no-show at E3 last week was in fact "no laughing matter."
Them's fighting words
One of the bigger surprises at E3 last week was what didn't get shown, and that includes the mysterious Halo title that was hyped in the lead up to the show, and then promptly pulled.
At the time, Microsoft, the publisher of the title, said the absence was the result of an amicable decision made by itself and Bungie. Xbox senior VP Don Mattrick said the cancellation meeting he had with Bungie president Harold Ryan went swimmingly, and that Ryan "just laughed" and said "we agree" when he received news his company's game was being shelved for the show.
Turns out Ryan remembers things a little differently.
"Keeping things clean, I certainly didn't agree with the decision to delay our news until sometime after E3," Ryan said. "Bungie is always concerned first and foremost with our fans. Whenever we are prevented from exceeding their positive expectations it is not a laughing matter."
What effect this rift (called "Halogate" in some circles today) will have on the new Halo title, if any, remains to be seen.

MS must've had a reason for pulling it. They want to make money just as much, if not more, than the next guy. Plus, who really cares about E3 announcements anymore. Halo is such a giant brand... any announcement during E3 or not is heard around the world.

A new Halo title would have been overshadowed by Gears of War 2 and M$ knew this coming into E3. Unless Bungie was going to show off some uber amazing footage, it's best NOT to put it up against M$'s new 300 lb gorilla that is Gears 2.

It wont have any effect. The game will still be popularized enough to make E3 insignificant.

Halo 3 isn't even a year old, right? MS is right, too much of a good thing isn't a good thing. It's a balancing act with keeping the people satisfied without over-saturating the market (Mario) with game after game in a given series.[p] Just shut your piehole Bungie and work on upping the graphics of your games, your a little behind in that department (no offense intended) and you need to bring the Halo world FULLY into the next gen with better graphics.[p] I'm sure that MS had a very good reason for not wanting an announcement made, and it ain't for the reason they gave, they are probably trying to save you some embarrassment. . . . You can NOT put out another sub-par Halo game and expect people to line up for it. . . You have to start pushing the envelope of cutting edge again. You can only skate on the Halo brand name for so long before the fans turn on you.
