Nintendo sorry for lackluster E3, hardcore 'misunderstanding'

Amid gamer outcry that Nintendo has forgotten its most loyal fan base, the company says a lack of hardcore games at E3 was merely a "misunderstanding."

"We are sorry about [the E3] media briefing," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told Forbes on Tuesday, "specifically for those who were expecting to see Nintendo show something about Super Mario or Legend of Zelda."
In June, Nintendo promised "several new titles" for core gamers at E3, only to unveil three casual-oriented first-party games: Animal Crossing: City Folk, Wii Sports Resort, and Wii Music.
Historically, Nintendo has used E3 as a platform to announce games intended for enthusiast players. In response to this year's showing, many gamers felt alienated and were openly critical of the company; backlash which eventually funneled into mass media coverage.
"If there is any perception that Nintendo is ignoring the core gamers, it's a misunderstanding, and we really want to get rid of that misunderstanding by any means," added Iwata. "The fact of the matter is the so-called 'big titles' need a long, long development period... We really didn't think this year's E3 media briefing was the time to do so."
And though Nintendo failed to inspire the hardcore gamer at its E3 press conference, the company threw loyal fans at least two bones last week, when confirming upcoming sequels for both Zelda and Mario.

All Nintendo has is Mario, Zelda and Metroid. Thats it. Apart from these titles, Wii games SUCK. Wake up and smell the coffee.

well some screens would have been nice (for zelda or mario) but the knowlege tht they are in the works is enough.,...... for now...

Nintendo is weak IMO compared to Ps3 and 360, I know it sell alot more units but thats because the price is cheap and its intended for a younger audience. They have some good games but nothing compared to the AAA titles of both the PS3 and 360. I dont know if its because im getting older (25) or what but Nintendo is just losing its touch to me. I used to play the hell out of my NES and SNES but that was back then, this is a Next Gen and they need to step it up or they will fail just like the Gamecube.
