Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed Tuesday at E3 that both the Mario and Zelda development teams are "hard at work" on new titles.
We'll be here again, eventually
LOS ANGELES -- During its E3 keynote presentation, Nintendo revealed that both its Mario and Zelda development teams were "hard at work" on new titles for both franchises.
"They will bring new titles to Wii," said Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.
Iwata stopped short of revealing what those titles might be, or when we could expect them, but rest assured Nintendo's two marquee development houses are working on new IP.
Also revealed Tuesday after the Nintendo press conference was the fact that the DS Zelda team is also working on a new title. Again, aside from that ambiguous revelation, there is little information to go on this morning.

New Mario titles for Wii... that's expected. Probably Mario Sluggers, then Mario Golf and/or Tennis... maybe even Mario Party 9 etc... but a new Zelda title for Wii is great news... and if we get another Zelda for DS too, then that's even better.

I those other games are just games that happen to have Mario as one of many characters, not a Mario game that plays like a Mario game.

I don't expect another Mario (platform) title for a good while... although I would love to get another. Mario Galaxy is one of the best games on Wii. They only had one for the SNES, one for the N64 and one for the Gamecube... so we'll see.

Even though I liked the concept behind Wii Music and definitely liked the news about Wii Sport Resort with the new add-on for the Wii remote and I will probably get them, I thought that they had some really important title to announce. I know that many people were waiting for Kid Icarus or some other big franchise from Nintendo to be announced but I guess they meant Wii Music all along.

IT DOESN'T mean they are working on zelda or mario titles....it's just the teams that brought those games that are working on new games.

Miyamoto said : "Zelda is a franchise that does need some big new unique ideas... And so the team right now is very focused on trying to find hose ideas. Glad to see they'll change it up a bit. I love all the Zelda games... but Twilight Princess did feel like a remake of Ocarina of Time. I'm glad to see they want to innovate and not just rehash old games.
