LOS ANGELES -- Sony revealed a few slick overhauls to its oft-delayed Home service today, along with a new video rental and purchase service that runs on both the PS3 and PSP.

No official announcement was given regarding the beta release of Home during the keynote, but a number of visual updates were shown to attendees that included water effects and game-themed trophy rooms for Warhawk and Resistance.

The video service will include movies from Sony Pictures, Warner, Disney, Fox Television and Film, MGM, Lionsgate, and 20th Century Fox.

Pricing was shown via the film Cloverfield, which featured a $15 purchase price and a $6 rental price (HD). The video rental/purchase service is available this evening, according to Sony reps, with new content added each week. Shows and movies will be accessed via the PlayStation store, where a new video button will be displayed.

UPDATE: Comments from Sony's Jack Tretton would appear to imply that Home is being delayed again (can you delay a game with no release date?), with no release date in sight.

"Your patience will be more than rewarded," Tretton said. Patience + no mention of release date in keynote = delay.

Nice about thee videos, and glad to see more info about Home...the $15 to buy the movie sounds good but $6 rental seems kind of high.

Sorry Sandman. I agree goldberg $6 is high for a rental. I'm not really interested in this. But I do want to buy Ratched & Clanks new game though.

I hope when you copy the movies to your PSP it compresses the file on the fly. Could you images trying to copy a HD movie to a Memory Stick Pro Duo. You'd need at least a 2GB at a minimum.

I like this.......Yet they just failed at countering M$ and the Netflix deal.

Its actually good pricing......if it keeps the features on the DVD......Which it wont.

NETFLIX owns this news. Imagine if even half the Netflix subscribers go out and get an XBOX360 for downloadable movies. Sony and the PS3 are in deep $hit.

I read on Gameinformer that the rentals start at $1.99. Maybe the new movies are more expensive to rent.
