GamePro Liveblogs the Sony Press Conference!

Earlier today, GamePro was at the Sony Press Conference and brought the details as they happened. Here is the report.

The Sony Press Conference is about to start, and we here at GamePro have our butts planted firmly in our seats and our fingers rested right on the keyboard, ready to bring you every bit of info as it happens!

Conference has begun. Gameplay montage being shown. Jack Tretton on stage. "2008 is the year of the PS3," he says. "PlayStation in 2008 is all about software." Tretton is reviewing previous releases on PS3 and PSP...

Resistance 2 footage being shown... 300-foot Levian boss is ginormous. Live, playable footage. Light clapping after footage... "Resistance to offers more than any other shooter in 2008," Insomniac president says.

LittleBigPlanet demo being used to show industry numbers in favor of PlayStation products (PS3, PSP, PS2). Clever presentation. PS3 Greatest Hits coming "later this year" for $29.99... LBP demo received with hearty applause.

Section devoted to PlayStation 2. "The biggest brands are still delivering great content on PS2," says Tretton. Buzz announced for PS3 and PSP in September. Movie service received with loud applause...

PlayStation Network: Universal PlayStation ID coming this fall.

Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty announced for PSN on PS3. It's described as a shorter game with a lower price ($14.99). "We're not interested in filling our download games library with titles nobody wants to play," says Tretton. Highlight reel of PSN games shown.

Gran Turismo TV teaser shown for Grand Turismo 5 Prologue. Pay for view content available starting August 1.

"Your patience will be rewarded," promised Tretton, speaking of the ongoing delay of PS3 Home. PS3 Home footage shown...

$2.99-5.99 movie rentals announced for PS3, in addition to movie purchases, which are transferable to multiple devices, including PSP, at the same time. Movie service received with loud applause.

Resistance Retribution announced for PSP. Footage shown. Coming spring 2009.

Life with Playstation, which includes news and other online features, coming to PS3 next month.

DC Universe Online shown. Coming to PS3 and PC.

80GB "Core" PS3 announced for $399.99. Same as the current 40GB model, only with a larger hard drive. Coming this September.

Trailers for three 2009 PS3 titles were shown--God of War 3 was shown in a completely CG trailer, while Infamous was displayed with in-game footage touting some seriously destructive attacks and acrobatic moves.

Finally, Zipper Interactive, the makers of SOCOM, unveiled the newest IP for PS3--MAG. MAG, which is short for Massive Action Game, features 256-player battles, which are broken down into squads of eight to keep things more manageable. The conference was capped off with a trailer that seemed to feature tons of action, but little gameplay. Tretton closed by thanking attendees, noting that this, the second year of titles bodes well for the third, fourth, and following years of the PS3's 10-year lifecycle.
