Sony has no plans to cut PlayStation 3 price

Although Microsoft will drop the price of the Xbox 360 to $299 this weekend, Sony says it has no plans to follow suit with the PS3.

No price cut yet for PS3, says Sony

No price cut yet for PS3, says Sony

"This year, our strategy is not to sell more quantity for PS3 but to concentrate on profitability," said CFO Nobuyuki Oneda on Friday. "Our plan is not to reduce the price."

Oneda's remarks trail widespread confirmation that Microsoft will drop the price of the Xbox 360 by $50 this Sunday. In the last three weeks, numerous sources and retail fliers have confirmed the news, though Microsoft says it has nothing to announce.

Sony effectively slashed the price of the PS3 for the first time last year, when introducing a new 40 GB model without backwards compatibility for $399.

wow they screwed up if this isn't true especially since you look how many games xbox 360 to ps3 with the xbox price drop to me my opinion wouldn't be to hard of a choice what console to buy unless your just looking for a cheap blueray player.

The Xbox Elite is costing M$ 990 Million dollars in the UK alone and they still manage to drop the price assuming the rumored price drop is true.

yeah true, Sony does need to actually make some money off the PS3, before they think about dropping the price of the PS3 again... i think the $400 PS3 is here to stay until 2010.

Could be true. But I think if Sony sees that the PS3 is slowing down in sales they will be forced to cut the price, unless they have great software that will sell consoles.

Man you fanboys get defensive! It's funny because Sony isn't even trying to hide the fact that all they're about is the money. "This year, our strategy is not to sell more quantity for PS3 but to concentrate on profitability," After EVERYTHING that MS has been thru, and all the money they "lost," they are STILL able to drop the price so that GAMERS can afford to play some pretty good GAMES. I own the PS3 and i really hope they have some good news to share at E3; or maybe some of the same OLD news like the release of Gran Turismo (which should have been a launch title) and God of War 3 (which also should have been a launch title). Good luck to us all I guess.

If Sony has to cut the price of the PS3 yet again, they might as well just scrap it and wait for next gen for another go.

The 40gb would sell better if it was backwards compatible. I'm saving up money for the 80gb system for that reason only.

Sega had to scrap the Saturn early on, but I guess Sony has a lot more money to throw around than Sega ever did. Lucky for them...
