Nintendo achieves greatness by not looking like Sega

Legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto tells Wired Magazine that often times he maintains quality control by not looking like the competition.

In a Wired interview published on Tuesday, when asked how Nintendo regularly achieves high review scores given the company's now mammoth size, Miyamoto replied:

"I'm always instructing my game designers on the history of the characters and worlds we've created. Often we're in development and I'll say, 'Oh, this looks like a Sega game. We need to make it look more like Mario.'"

Nintendo has long since had a reputation for consistently being the most critically acclaimed video game publisher, in terms of average review scores.

Be sure to read the rest of the Wired interview for Miyamoto's thoughts on traditional controllers, the creation of which he takes credit for, and games as interactive software.

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar I firmly believe Miyamoto doesn't have a shred of malice in his bones, but that quote is choice! Ironically, it was first Sega, then Sony, that found success by not looking like Nintendo. Zig while others zag, I suppose.

Lol fair enough given Sega's latest track record although I'll take the old classic 2d sonic games over the mario ones anyday.

Well... I don't really thing Sega is an issue anymore, Miyamoto-san. The real issue nintendo has is the shovelware developers keep vomitting onto their system.

I'm glad other developers take a chance and thik outside of the same Nintendo type characters and games besides WiiFit what was the last original game that came out of Nintendo? I sure the Wiiboys would gladly get on their knees and worship Miyamoto but I'll stick with the competition , MS and Sony.

this article sucks as do many other gamepro bullsh.it news articles. "Oh, this looks like a Sega game. We need to make it look more like Mario.'" all this is saying is that nintendo is trying to remain original and not copy the competition...come up with some fresh interesting news next time i wasted 2 minutes of my life reading this article and writing this post and i can't get it back now
