Insiders confirm several Activision, Microsoft leaks UPDATE

Yesterday, an internet leak detailed several unannounced projects and details from Microsoft, Activision, and other studios. Industry insiders have since confirmed that at least some of these leaks are legitimate.

The leak torrent from marketing firm Intellisponse regarding upcoming Activision and Microsoft projects, games and peripherals is indeed *mostly* the real deal, said one industry insider with first-hand knowledge of some of the events.

While not all the information contained in the massive Sunday evening leak can be confirmed as of press time, an industry source told GamePro today that the leaks containing screenshots, box art, or peripheral photos were likely legitimate as they closely aligned with publicly known information.

This would seem to confirm that Call of Duty 5 is dropping the "5" for a "World at War" subtitle; that Guitar Hero: World Tour will feature a new touch-sensitive guitar, and go for $180; a game show channel is headed to Xbox Live; and balance board games are coming soon to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

The news would also seem to confirm that Microsoft is ready to attack Sony's SingStar with a project being called "Lips," which will be a "music and singing game that [reportedly] includes 30 songs, two wireless interactive microphones, the ability to use and sing your own music or downloaded songs from an online service," according to posts at gaming insider forum NeoGAF.

Marketing firm Intellisponse, for its part, has denied everything. When pressed by gaming blog Kotaku via email, spokesperson Elizabeth McCrocklin said "it is our policy that we do not comment on rumor or speculation." Kotaku has a round up of the rumors (or are they facts now?), up today.

Still unknown at this time is the veracity of Microsoft's updated Mii-like avatar system for Xbox Live. On Sunday, GamePro reported on a leak that said Microsoft was experimenting with a customizable replacement for GamerTag pictures.

UPDATE: Microsoft responded to the leaks on Monday without addressing specifics. "We regularly test all kinds of concepts in market research with our Xbox community," an official said. "These may or may not be real products in development or ever be released to consumers."

Even if this is all speculation or confirmed, E3 is in no way ruined. Because this is a Microsoft/Activision leak. There are other companies who have announcements that will make E3 eventful: Sony, Nintendo, Developers.
