Sony announces Qore, paid programming for PS3

A month after the Nintendo Channel launched on Wii, Sony on Tuesday unveiled a subscription video service for PS3 to showcase upcoming games and downloadable content.

The once monthly vidcast, dubbed Qore (pronounced "core"), will be available for download from the PlayStation Store on Thursday, June 5 and presented in high definition. Single shows can be purchased for $2.99. A yearly subscription is also available for $24.99.

"The premier episode includes in-depth exclusive and never-before released content on upcoming PlayStation titles such as SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Secret Agent Clank, Soul Calibur 4 and Afro Samurai," reports the PlayStation blog, "as well as the latest Blu-ray Disc trailers, an exclusive SOCOM: Confrontation theme with an invitation to the SOCOM: Confrontation beta, art galleries and other surprises."

In May, Nintendo launched a similar service for Wii called the Nintendo Channel. Rather than offer original programming, the free channel serves as a video archive and recommendation system for Wii, Virtual Console, DS, and WiiWare games.

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar Here's hoping the service warrants the price, otherwise a trailer and interview archive like the Nintendo Channel might have sufficed (in HD of course).

Yes, I know, but why would anyone CHOOSE to pay for it.

That would be a waste of $2.99, you could use that to get head from gregorirasputin or Tha1nonle's mom on a Saturday Nite! As long as I have a internet connection, I can always find trailers or video of games anywhere for free.

If this keeps Sony from charging to play games online then go for it. May all the dumb Sony fanatics pay for game trailers and other boring content while I keep gaming free online.

I think it's an awesome idea and should bring in a little green from those die hard fans that want the info ASAP. Don't like the service? Don't download it :)
