Xbox Live Gamertag bans get out of hand

Forget Gamertags with offensive words; Microsoft is apparently ready to ban people who's given names are deemed offensive by the Xbox Live community.
The offending name Credit: Kotaku
First it was Linux, then it was names with sexual preferences (like "gay"). Today, Microsoft appears ready to ban anyone who's given name, or surname, includes words deemed offensive by the Xbox Live community at large.
The latest victim of Microsoft's crusade to rid Xbox Live of "gay" references is Richard Gaywood, a U.K. resident whose legal surname happens to include the word "gay."
Kotaku has since confirmed that the person is real, but regardless his Gamertag has been banned.
Also banned in recent memory was the theGayerGamer. According to Microsoft, any Gamertag that includes a sexual innuendo or otherwise offends the Xbox Live community will be banned. In Microsoft's defense, however, in that case the ban occurred because of complaints by Xbox Live community members, not Microsoft filters.

Who cares? It's a stupid name. Pick something else and move on. It's Microsoft's service so they make the rules...if you don't like it then go somewhere else.

I agree with MS on this one. That's a very slippery slope, and if you let one slide, . . well, you can't make exceptions. . . . Sexual innuendo doesn't belong anywhere near a "toy" that kids can see and then ask mommy what a hymen or foreskin is, . . . . Mommy, . . what's a rim-job?. . speaking out of the other side of my mouth, I have 3 accounts, ONE of which is pretty offensive.

I can understand banning people for cheating but for a name that's kind of crazy.

CHANGE YOUR FCKEN NAME!.............he can change it to Bottombanger, or Hotfleshyinsides, . both of which are less offensive than his real name

Unfortunately this is one of those situations where you can't make exceptions or else people will find loopholes. It's easier and more efficiant to just ban it all together and have everyone pick a different name.
