Nintendo says Wii owners are hardcore gamers

Contrary to popular belief that gaming noobs drive the majority of Wii sales, Nintendo's VP of marketing on Wednesday said the majority of Wii owners are in fact hardcore.
Two typical "hardcore" Wii gamers
While speaking at the Electronic Gaming Summit in San Francisco, newly-appointed Mario marketer Cammie Dunaway maintained that 79 percent of Wii owners are male, older than 18, have an income of $50,000 or more, and half of them game for at least five or more hours per week.
That said, other household members, including females and aging grandparents, play a whole lot of Wii once it's in the home, asserts Dunaway. As a result, coupled with the incredible Wii sales rate, Nintendo says more games (excluding VC sales and Wii Sports bundles) have been purchased in the first 18 months on Wii than any other system to date, including the PlayStation 2.
According to Nintendo, about 50 million games were sold for the Wii in its first 18 months, compared to about 42 million games for PlayStation 2, 30 million for Xbox 360, 28 million for the original Xbox, and 20 million for PlayStation 3.
"While we appreciate the impact the PlayStation 2 had on sales and the industry [it's currently the best selling console of all time with 125 million units sold], perhaps we are even more impactful," said Dunaway, suggesting that Wii will surpass total PS2 sales in the coming years.

i myself am a hardcore gamer. i have been gaming since the NES came out and i won all three systems. the wii has hardcore games but too many people read other peoples opinions on these boards, from freinds and then they beleieve the wii hae no hardcore games.

Cuz I own a wii, and it only comes out when company comes over. For gaming I play my 360 most. Bioshock, Mass Effect, COD4 trump anything the wii has even tried to come out with.

but i must admit, nintendo messed up by making all od their commercialls with a bunch of young people and old people playing all of their games. they can only blame themselves for the "wii is not for hardcore gamers" mentality. there are hardcore games on the wii: zelda, mario galaxy, matroid 3, SSBB. i doubt someone thats 10 and 80 can beat any of these games. well atleast they have the most AAA excluive titles. the ps3 aint got one!! HAHAHAHAHA atleats until MGS4 comes out

I only own one console, the Wii, and I do consider myself a hardcore gamer. I play at least a couple of hours every night, and I own 22 Wii games and a handfull of VC Games.

the only game i wanna play on the wii is umbrella chronicles....thats the only game that interests me on that crappy system...oh yeah and that black and white survival horror game, that looks cool to
