Gyllenhaal nabs leading role in Prince of Persia adaptation

An American in Persia--Jerry Bruckheimer taps actor Jake Gyllenhaal for his upcoming adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Is this cowboy up to wrasslin' with the sands of time?

American actor Jake Gyllenhaal has been cast in the leading role in the motion picture adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, writes The Hollywood Reporter. The Jerry Bruckheimer-produced film, which is based on the best-selling Ubisoft game of the same title and slated for a summer 2009 opening, is set to begin shooting this July.

Gyllenhaal will wield the temporal powers of the sands of time as sixth century Persian Prince Dastan. Working together with the enigmatic Princess Tamina played by British actress Gemma Arterton, Dastan must prevent an ill-intentioned nobleman from seizing the sands of time.

Direct any and all future comments regarding the adaptation to Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner who helped pen the screenplay, joining writers Doug Miro, Carlo Bernard, and Boaz Yakin. Mechner, who created the series way back in 1989, was involved intimately in the game's revival on which the film is based. He collaborated with Ubisoft in 2003 to release Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube.

Final casting for the starring role comes after months of speculation. From 28 Days Later lead Cillian Murphy to elven heartthrob Orlando Bloom and even a few fresh faces, Gyllenhaal emerges as the actor with the honor of swathing himself in the Prince's robes. A costume change should come easily for the award-winning actor whose previous roles include gay cowboy Jack Twist in Brokeback Mountain and an emotionally disturbed teen in Donnie Darko.

In the wait for the movie, look forward to playing through a reinterpretation of the adventure series later this year when Ubisoft releases Prince of Persia Prodigy on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Faded we know Jake would be your first pick anyways... we know you watch Brokeback Mountain on Bluray while butt naked on your couch with cucumbers and Vaseline. Keep in mind the PS3 is outselling the 360 on average by 200,000 units each month worldwide. The 360 is being pulled from India for the abysmal sales in that region. Haze is about a 60 to 70 percent rated game. I typically play games that are 80 percent and above, so regardless of IGN's review which is kinda harsh. I mean I played the Demo and didn't like it too much. But damn, I can honestly say it isn't a 40. Oh, and in case you guys didn't know, analog controls was added to Lair, so I think another review would change that low score significantly. I am gonna give Lair another try with analog, it should be an OK game if you like dragons, etc.

This just made this movie SUCK!! Jake isn't that good an actor in American roles...Now he's going to play an acrobatic Persian sword master prince? Better stick to the gay cowboy roles. LOL!
