Rare created Xbox 360-Nintendo DS link with Viva Pinata

Did your spine tingle a little today? That's because developer Rare played god with Viva Pi?ata: Trouble in Paradise and mated the Xbox 360 version with a Nintendo DS.

Using the camera add-on for the Xbox 360, Rare was able to successfully mate that system's version of Viva Pi?ata with the upcoming one for Nintendo DS.

The hell spawned lovechild was killed off however, because the feature was thought of and implemented too late in the Xbox 360 version's development cycle.

"We got it to work, but it was too late in the development cycle," said "Trouble In Paradise" designer Justin Cook. If they'd thought of it sooner, he told MTV Multiplayer, then maybe it could have happened, but not now. "It's one of those things where you just kick yourself," he said.

The Xbox "communicated" with the DS by way of the Xbox 360 camera, which reads codes off of cards, iPod screens and even dual screened Nintendo handhelds to unlock hidden content.

Rare confirmed that the DS version of Viva Pi?ata was finished as of May 11. The Xbox 360 sequel, "Trouble in Paradise," arrives in September.

That's amazing. I wonder if it's the truth, though. I don't know why, but I'm just a bit suspicious with the reasoning being that it was "too late" ...

That's just weird... I wonder if Nintendo knows about this... and if it was approved by Nintendo. Well, they'll find out soon I guess

huh...a MS IP on Nintendo DS...I had heard about this a while back. Its a bit different since it is also an animated kids' show, but still. MS has not been too coy with stating its admiration of Nintendo...who knows what kind of backroom dealings the two have had and are having currently...maybe MS gives them Viva, and 360 can finally get GoldenEye...lmao

Don't be surprised if you see more of this down the line. Nintendo and MS will do what it takes to keep their foothold in the market, even if it means an occasional tag team match...............still kinda weird though, huh?
