Gears of War 2 to get a 'longer' campaign and 'bigger, better' online

Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinksi gave GamePro a sneak peek at the second level of Gears of War 2 at Microsoft's Spring Showcase event in San Fransisco tonight.
Chainsaw battles are back with a vengeance in Gears of War 2. You'll have to mash the B button to overpower this enemy.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Bleszinksi played through the second level of Gears of War 2, showing off the new graphics abilities (essentially bigger, more detailed levels) as well as a new weapon (a five-shot Gorgon pistol) in an epic encounter with some seriously huge enemies.
Bleszinksi took questions following the demonstration. He confirmed that the single-player campaign in Gears of War 2 would be "longer" than the one featured in the original Gears of War, addressing one of the most common complaints about that game. He also said that the game's multiplayer mode would be "bigger and better," but held off on explaining any more details for the time being.
Gears of War 2 coverboy Marcus Fenix has a few new moves, too. He can grab a downed enemy Locust and use him as a "meat shield." Bleszinksi said that the Locust's body would disintegrate as it absorbed punishment. When you're ready to ditch your Locust shield, Marcus will snap his neck and toss the lifeless body aside.
Another new addition is in the close-range combat, which has been upgraded with a more elaborate chainsaw mechanic. You'll have to pound the B button to overpower your opponent in a clash of chainsaws.
You can shoot off the grappling hooks of invading Locust soldiers in this intense encounter on the derrick.
Overall, the gameplay demonstration was pure Gears of War, with epic raging battles, gushing gore, and intense shootouts. The level Bleszinksi demonstrated took place on a serious of immense transport vehicles called "derricks," which the human survivors use to punch through the Earth's crust and attack the Locust invaders in their subterranean bases. In the demo, Locust soldiers attempted to invade the slow-moving derricks with the help of grappling hooks and, later, enormous Brumack and Corpser beasts that erupted from the ground.

ESCOBAR7500 Posted at: 05/14/08 at 12:48 AM PST of course it will since the 1st campaign was 3 hrs longSadly this is more the rule this generation than the exception. I prefer a longer or more fun game than onewith better graphics, but developers don't. I loved the original Gears and everything and I'm stoked about Gears 2, but it seems like every generation graphics get more and more attention while sacrificing gameplay, content, and innovation.

^ but the wii doesnt have that many games with content and innovation just alot of cheap 3rd party knock offs. Yeah a game like bloom blox is an exception but you have devs trying to make a gimmick more than a game. Thats what they are doing. There are alot of games on the ps3/360 that sacrifice gameplay content and innovation and there are alot of games on the wii that are gimmicks, could be mistaken for gamcube games and are looking to suck you in only to relize it suks. But there are eceptions in both situations.

Good stuff, but it's also expected, imo. Also, I wonder if the MP guys are worried about the news with Resistance 2 (and 60 freakin' people!)...
