According to Next-Generation, no release date has been announced, but pre-production has already begun.

"BioShock fans appreciate the depth and complexity of the game, and our partnership with Gore Verbinski will introduce the world of Rapture to an even wider audience," said 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann. "In addition to his impressive body of work, Gore is an avid videogamer and true fan of BioShock. That was extremely important to us in deciding to move forward with this project."

BioShock won numerous Game of the Year awards in 2007, particularly for its sophisticated story, art direction, and use of plasmid power-ups. A sequel was announced for release in 2009.

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar This might be the best story to adapt as a movie. Here's hoping Universal and Verbinski don't screw it up like so many other video game movies.

As much as I liked Bioshock, don't think I would go to the movies to see it, might be a rental. Silent Hill was one of the better " game to movie " efforts IMO.

I have faith that this could actually turn out to be THE videogame to movie adaption that pushes these movies into the mainstream. Kind of like X-men did for comic book movies.

I would love to star in this movie, but yeah don't kill it like other video game movies.

I'm affraid that it will be a Bioshock bomb. But Pirates was awesome, hopefully Gore delivers.

Yeah I agree with AANTHUNDER, Silent Hill was one of the better done films... but even it was just OK.
