Microsoft likes GTA IV because it sells Xbox 360s

Company says U.S. sales for Xbox 360 spiked 54 percent last week, thanks to the release of Grand Theft Auto IV.

In addition to being a system-seller, Microsoft asserts that the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV accounted for 60 percent of total sales. It's likely the other 40 percent purchased a PS3 as well, in addition to the multiplatform game, though Sony has yet to say by what percent.
Both Microsoft and Sony depend on GTA IV to sell consoles, as can be seen by the many platform-specific advertisements in circulation (see image). Sony also releases their own to promote the PS3, with never a mention of the Xbox 360 version obviously.
As a testament to GTA IV's addicting missions, side quests, and free-roaming adventures, Microsoft closed Thursday's statistical announcement by saying that the average gamer spent more than four hours playing GTA IV last week, the most of any other game.
It will be interesting to see what the game did for PS3 sales -- I'm betting Sony will soon release the numbers. In any case, one thing's for certain: GTA IV is a very, very, very, very, addicting game.

This is a great game and it helped both systems, can't wait to get the downloadable content thou. Hopefully there are new cities, weapons, vechile, character, etc. Rockstar needs to due Chicago, political corruption, all sorts of people to stereotype and make fun of, the big Puerto Rican flags on Division, all the yuppies, the South Side, make fun of the Cubs never winning a world series and the White Sox not getting any attention all thou they did. Mayor Daley, I can go on and on and on.... does anybody agree. It could be call Grand Theft Auto the Windy City, or Second City... etc.

In any case, one thing's for certian: GTA IV is a very, very, very, very, addicting game.You ain't lied there! I said I was only going to play a few missions then go to sleep, that was at 8:30. I feel went to bed at 1:00 A.M and had to get up at 5:00 A.M. I am tired as hell right now but I still going home and play a few more missions before I go to sleep.LOL.

How about going to Maxwell street at 3 A.M to buy a Polish with grilled onions when you are shit faced drunk! and not getting the smell out of your cars for days! You aint from Chicago if you never did that!

i definetly don't trust M$ with their numbers. didn't they claim that for the holiday 07 they sold twice as many consoles than the PS3 and at the end they only sold 10% more than the PS3 did. well i'll just wait for the real numbers. i know it sold more on the 360 but not 60%, i doubt it, but who knows?
