Grand Theft Auto IV PS3 lockup patch available now

A week after the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar released a patch on Wednesday for PS3 owners hoping to avoid random game lock ups.

"Rockstar Games released a GTA IV patch for Playstation 3 today that prevents Gamespy's servers from being overloaded and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up," the publisher said in a statement.

"This update will ensure that everyone will experience Grand Theft Auto IV the way it was intended. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused."

Last week, it was revealed that PS3 owners experienced freeze ups during the playback of Grand Theft Auto IV, usually upon starting the game. The following Saturday, resourceful gamers discovered that disconnecting from the internet proved successful as a temporary work around.

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar Disconnecting from PSN worked for me, still, it was annoying to have to massage the game just to get it started. Good news! I'm guessing the patch is available for download from the PlayStation Store...?

Developers need to test games more and stop relying on patches to solve their problems.

hey man, it's only 12 easy steps........I'm sorry, but if you tolerate this kind of nonsense, and deem it acceptable, your off your rocker, and deserve what you get. . . . . . . what a load of bullshit......I don't like the game on any console anyway, I can't understand why people think this game is so good, it's dark depressing, and SLOW....

It worked fine for me last night, eventhough I haven't played it online, still into the story mode too much. The more I play it , the more I like this game, sniper missions are f*cking funny shit. hell, the whole game has some great moments, story better than 90% of the shit Hollywood pumps out.

Doesnt work, I let my lil bro play this morning and it locked up 10 min in, Worthless patch.

Guess you'll have to connect to the PSN again then... and now you can try the many online modes.
