Put the pedal to the metal in new ranked challenges posted to the Mario Kart Channel.
"If you ain't first, then you're last"
Nintendo has updated Mario Kart Wii to include new worldwide tournaments, the first of which started this weekend. Unlike traditional elimination-style tournaments, these new online-only events have you completing specific tasks on your own and uploading the results to be ranked with players worldwide.
The inaugural tournament involves posting the best time on the Mario Circuit. Getting to the finish line isn't a Sunday drive through the park, however. Once held in place, a Chain Chomp now travels backward along the road and item boxes have been rearranged.
Tournaments will occur every few weeks ranging from basic time trials to collecting as many coins on a course as possible to using a specific controller during a race. Details are listed on the Mario Kart Channel located on the Wii main channel menu. From here, you're also able to check on current rankings, exchange ghost data, and manage friend codes without having to boot up the game.
If leaving Daisy in the dust in a little tourney action doesn't rev your engine, there's still plenty to play in Mario Kart Wii. Make sure to check out our full review of what Review Editor Tae K. Kim calls "a great title that all Wii owners have to check out."

I got a Wii a few weeks ago. Just opened it 2 days ago. Rented Mario Kart Wii, this game is bad ass. I am not a casual gamer, but this brings back the fun I had on the N64 days. Hell of a game, good times. I'll have to check the tournament out tomorrow if it's not to late, I did see they were up and running earlier, but I didn't take a shot at it............yet. I recommend this game to anyone and everyone. BTW, the Wii is much better then I even expected, I admit, I didn't expect much, or know what to expect, I am a 360 guy. But I gotta admit, this is kick ass, the system runs so smooth and quiet, you will love all of the quirks about it, it has so many positives, the SD memory card save system is a huge bonus, everyone has SD cards around the house these days. And for 250 bucks, how could you not get this system. I plan on checking out No More Heroes this week, the game looks sick as hell. Go out and get a Wii, way cheaper then a PS3, and has some awesome games. Smash Bros, everything Mario, Zelda, Metroid, its all there. As I mentioned, no more heroes.
