PlayStation 3 version only: Resolution, online issues hamper GTA IV experience

Maybe there IS a difference after all: Reports confirm online issues and less-than-HD 640p resolution for the PS3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV.

When it isn't locking up your system with inexcusable game-ending glitches, Grand Theft Auto IV, for all intents and purposes, has delivered as advertised.

That is, if you're playing the Xbox 360 version.

Confirmed reports today have laid two additional issues at the feet of the PS3 version of GTA IV. These issues include inaccessible online play and a less-than-true-HD 640p resolution.

Sony is aware of the online problems, read a post over at Kotaku, but Rockstar so far has not responded to their inquiries. The GTA IV servers are hosted by Gamespy.

As for the resolution issue, several outlets have confirmed the PS3 version runs at 640p, compared to the Xbox 360's HD 720p. Before you go stringing up Sony and Rockstar for the gaff, however, remember that Halo 3 experienced the same un-HD treatment when it launched in 2007.

It should also be noted that neither version runs at 1080p, the resolution most touted by both Microsoft and Sony in the run up to the "next generation console war." Maybe GTA IV could come out for Wii after all?

Holy crapoly!!! Theres gonna be a million angry fanboys tearing up this thread in about 2 minutes. It would be sweet if they bring GTA IV to the Wii, but please, clean up the glitches first.

I have the PS3 version and my 12yr.old daughter mentioned something to me last night as I was playing the game, " it doesn't look as good as it did in the magazines." She was right! Lots of jaggies and vasaline look to the whole game. I adjusted the video and I still couldn't get something I liked in terms of visual content. Yes, my copy froze up on me a few times but then it unfroze and gameplay was fine. We will see.

Looks like Rockstar is going to go exclusive with the next GTA on the 360 after this. Whats that? Which system offers the best online experience? Thats right, the 360. HOME on the PS3 is going to suck. By the time Sony figures out how to do online, the PS4 will be out. Ha Ha Ha!!!

surprise surprise.bring out the pitch forks and torches 360 fanboys.i smell a flame war a brewin.this doesnt surpise me its been like this for the most part anyway with cross platform games.the only games that truely shine on ps3 are exclusives any way.the whole reason to own one.proving once again why i prefer my cross platform games on 360 at the moment.

Waiting for Dareal.Ticl. Sonyboy69. Patron and gthe rest for their comments. Saying that. Less then 720p is not a big deal. CO4 and Halo 3 had it. Like it was said NUMEROUS times before, these consoles DO NOT have the power to run high rfes graphic texture intense games at 180p. If you notice all the games running native 1080p you will see that things were givien up for this to happen. Like not as many things or objects in the background. Low res textures in some places. Etc. You want 1080p for gaming? Buy a PC. As for online. Waiting for the response from guys like Sonyboy who stated that PSN is better then XBL. Like it has been said. You get what you pay for. If PSN cannot handle this traffic, whats going to happen when PSN gets the traffic close to XBL. As of now PSN has the fraction of the users online and this is happeneing? Flame on people.
