Iwata: Wii, DS price cuts unlikely in 2008

Nintendo prez Satoru Iwata said Thursday that you shouldn't count on a Wii or DS price cut this year.

In an earnings call on Thursday, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said price cuts for the company's market-leading Wii and DS consoles are unlikely to happen this year.

"Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don't think we are going to need them," Iwata said in a summary of the call posted over at Reuters.

As previously reported by GamePro, Nintendo's fourth quarter results released this week showed the company has sold 18.6 million Wii units over the past 12 months, bringing worldwide sales to date to 24.4 million units.

Sales for the company were up 73 per cent across the fiscal year, while operating income was up 115.6 per cent and profit up 47.7 per cent.

With numbers like that, thoughts of a price cut for either console are wishful thinking at best, pure delusion at worst. Additional sourcing from Reuters.

Don't care... got both... but this is no surprise... when they start collecting dust on store shelves, they'll lower the price...but it doesn't seem that'll happen anytime soon!

TheTeacher

Why cut the price when people won't even let your console sit on the shelf for an hour?
