Brett Favre may have retired from football, but he's still in the game.

According to GameDaily, Brett Favre will be announced as the cover athlete for Madden NFL 09 during his appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman tonight. EA Sports president Peter Moore will conveniently be in attendance.

Electronic Arts has previously said it would unveil the cover athlete of the newest Madden on April 25. As reported last month, Madden NFL 09 will launch on all major platforms (excluding PC) on August 12.

If/when it happens, it wouldn't be the first time EA has revealed the Madden cover on late-night television. Last year, Vince Young was given the honor for Madden 08 during a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel show.

Brett Favre announced his retirement from professional football on March 6. While unprecedented, the appearance of a retired NFL player on a new Madden cover might make sense as the 09 version marks the 20th anniversary of franchise.

Unfortunately it's EA and it's Madden, which means we'll get the same rehashed crap we've seen for the last 3 years....... oh wait! We can dance in the endzone now. Whew that was close. Thank god EA takes risks like that or else we might actually get a good product.
