As Wii Fit sells out in UK, Nintendo urges consumers to 'shop around'

Nintendo's pile of money is about to balloon ever bigger if the pre-order sell-outs and intense demand in the UK are any indication.

Multiple sources are reporting this morning that the fervor surrounding Wii Fit, Nintendo's fitness-based Wii peripheral, has reached a fever pitch in the United Kingdom.

At Videogaming247.com, no less than five major video game retailers were reporting Wii Fit shortages and sell-outs as consumers clamored for pre-orders.

Play.com, Amazon.co.uk, Game.co.uk, Shopto.net and Zavvi.co.uk all greeted customers looking for Wii Fit pre-orders with similar messages. "Sorry, Wii fit is temporarily out of stock, please check again soon," read the response at Zawi.co.uk.

For its part, Nintendo is advising consumers to "shop around" for Wii Fit, as it too anticipated high demand and the supply chain constraints that have become synonymous with Nintendo product launches.

In a statement released to GamesIndustry.biz, Nintendo said: "All retailers in the UK and Ireland have been aware of their Wii Fit allocations for launch since early March and as such we would see any stopping of pre-orders a sensible precaution on their part to ensure all current orders are met. Many retailers are still accepting pre-orders and we would advise people to shop around to secure their copy."

Wii Fit launches in Europe on April 25, and then in the US on May 19 for $89.99.

I firmly believe this will be one of the best selling games of all time. Especially in the US with the whole fitness craze. All nintendo has to do is have it make one appearence on oprah and the thing will sell like 50 million copies. I'm actually really looking forward to this game. I've been looking for the motivation to work out lately and I think Wii fit just might do it.

this whole Wii sh!t is driving me nuts. i mean that Wii-Fit should not even be consider as a videogame. it's meant for either Women or metrosexual men.......... man, that Wii is gay as hell

I have to agree on that one dude, it is not even a game, and if you look on eBay, you can still find the 20+ year old version of the Wii Fit for less than $10...it's called the NES Power Pad for those of you too young to remember.

i would like to see AANTHUNDERs avatar workin it out at wii fit, but otherwise i see no use for the game, the balance board has potential, just not for a fitness game.

Should be perfect for a metro guy that spends all his time crying... Oh I know what would make it perfect for you. Maybe they should throw in a knife that comes out and cuts your wrsit during push ups.. make it worth it to an Emo kid like yourself

Nice way to show your ignorance. Maybe you're too young but the power pad was nothing like Wii fit. I guess it helps to actually be old enough to remember it and not just some punk kid that reads a reference and runs his mouth about it like he has a point

Yeah nice way to prove his points wrong. Kids like you are always funny to me.
