Gran Turismo 5 Prologue to get vehicle damage

After 10 long years of disapproval, presumably by sexy automobile makers, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will finally implement crash damage as early as Fall, says lead designer Kazunori Yamauchi.

The revelation came by way of an IGN interview published on Thursday, in which Yamauchi said the feature could be included as a downloadable update to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. "Maybe by Fall we'll be able to implement it," he said.

Despite its detailed graphics and focus on realism, the Gran Turismo series has been widely criticized by fans since its launch in 1998 for its lack of real-time (or anytime) car damage, something car manufacturers themselves have been blamed for.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which retails for $39.99 as a sample to the full game to be released later, arrives on PlayStation 3 on April 17.
