LucasArts today announced that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be released on September 16 in the United States. A PAL release will follow on September 17 and Europe will be granted the use of the Force on September 19.

LucasArts and developer KromeStudios are also creating versions of the game for the Wii, PS2 and PSP. n-Space, Inc., is developing a version for Nintendo DS. All will feature the same storyline, LucasArts said.

As a new chapter in the Star Wars Saga, The Force Unleashed puts players in the shoes of Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice," and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will also feature extensive physics and AI engines.

LucasArts explained in a press release today that the game's expansive story is set between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. "Players will assist Vader in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny," the release said.

To promote the new PS3 and Xbox 360 physics-heavy new game, LucasArts is teaming up with SpikeTV to air all six Star Wars episodes for the first time on basic cable beginning on April 4.
