Saving Face: Activision gifts Guitar Hero III mono sufferers with free faceplates

Activision surprised the Wii version owners of Guitar Hero III that had gone through the mono disc replacement process this week with a free faceplate.

Guitar Hero III faceplates

You stay classy, Activision

If you were one of the Wii owners who suffered though the mono channel only Guitar Hero III disc replacement process, Activision had your back this weekend with a free unannounced faceplate delivery.

The move was executed pretty much in secret, with Guitar Hero III Wii owners receiving the freebie late last week complete with a letter of apology/thank you note.

"You recently received a Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock Wii replacement disc. To show our appreciation for your patience during the re-mastering and manufacturing phase for Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock for the Wii, enclosed is a complementary Guitar Hero faceplate from Activision/Red Octane," the note read.

THE VERDICT by Jack Loftus Jack Loftus's Avatar It is pretty rare in this day and age to see a major publisher like Activision take the initiative and provide these free -- and rather sharp looking -- Guitar Hero III faceplates. That said, this was an inexcusable mistake that should never have made it passed QA. Note to publishers and developers: Just because the option exists to send out patches after the fact does not mean you have permission to release half-baked games.
