BioShock 2 confirmed for release in fall of 2009

Take-Two Interactive on Tuesday announced the follow-up to the critically acclaimed BioShock, but the sequel is being developed by a new studio.

BioShock 2 is being made by 2K Marin, said the publisher, as opposed to Ken Levine's 2K Boston, which received top honors for the storytelling and immersion chops of the first game.

While adding no further details, Take-Two said the shooter is planned for release in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009, which means sometime between June and September of next year.

Outside of timing, the announcement comes as no surprise. BioShock has sold over 2 million units worldwide on Xbox 360 and PC since its launch last August, says Take-Two -- more than enough to justify a sequel.
