Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: $40 demo or $40 game?

Sony on Thursday confirmed 60 cars and 6 tracks for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, the $40 appetizer to the full version expected in 2009.
In addition to the listed vehicles and tracks, a new drift mode, car tuning, two-player split screen, and new online/offline race events were announced for North American gamers. Online multiplayer of up to 16 people was announced previously.
"This impressive vehicle lineup and the additional features that cater to North American racing fans are great compliments to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue's stunning 1080p graphics and revolutionary online features," said Scott A. Steinberg, SCEA VP of marketing. "Fans are sure to be pleased with the first Gran Turismo product for sale on PlayStation."
Die-hard fans will likely purchase the game, but Sony's pay-to-sample model is unproven where free demos are the norm when selling full-version games. We'll find out if Sony is on the money come April 17 upon Prologue's release.
