Rumors of a Heavenly Sword sequel surfaced today after a Chicago focus group was assembled to answer questions about the title's future.
Tell me what you like about me
Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory would love to make the 2007 button masher into a proper trilogy, but first they want to make sure the final two games turn out just right. And how will they do that? With a survey that just so happens to contain major hints about an upcoming sequel.
A tipster over at Kotaku said the survey was conducted by a market research firm called Chatter, which had gamers answering a series of Heavenly Sword questions about everything from the title's cutscenes to their thoughts on the title's disappointing sales.
But that wasn't all. Following the recap questions Chatter also grilled participants about details that are all but certain to be found in a sequel. They included:
- Heavenly Sword 2 will take place 10 years after Heavenly Sword
- The main character will be a male with martial arts background
- The main character will be Kai, but she will be a more mature woman
- The game will have combat controls that utilize an analog stick
- The game will have DLC: weapons, characters, and enemies
It's just a survey, but it appears as though Ninja Theory is looking into a new character; multiple characters; an old, wrinkly Kai character; or a combination of the three. Additionally, the survey also hinted about interactive environments and a more linear, anti-sandbox storyline. No box art, screenshots or even bullshots were shown to the survey participants, unfortunately.
