Metal Gear Solid: Essential Collection coming to PS2

Konami on Tuesday confirmed the release of a Metal Gear Solid compilation for PS2, leading up to the Q2 release of Metal Gear Solid 4 for PlayStation 3.

The commemorative package includes the original Metal Gear Solid for PS1, and the director's cut of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3.

"Since its inception, the Metal Gear Solid franchise has been one of the most successful game series in the history of video games," said Anthony Crouts, VP of Marketing at Konami. "Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection represents a great value for gamers, bringing together three must-have classic titles which pioneered the stealth action genre."

Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection is rated mature and carries an MSRP of $29.99. Unfortunately, a release date was missing from the announcement.
