White PS3 coming to America, say FCC filings

Approval documents reveal that the ceramic white PS3, first released in Japan last October, is coming stateside.

According to the Federal Communications Commission filing, Sony requested short-term confidentiality in October 2007 "to avoid premature release of sensitive information prior to marketing or release of the product to the public."

While no specific date was given, the filing confirms for North America what Japanese gamers have been privy to since November 2007: the 40GB ceramic white PlayStation 3.

According to NPD data released last week, Sony has sold 3.3 million PS3 units in the U.S. alone, compared to 9.2 million Xbox 360s and 7.4 million Wiis.
