Sony will introduce a "compact" PS2 in the U.S. early next year for $99, a trade publication reported on Friday.
Yet another PS2 redesign coming?
"[We] can exclusively reveal that this 'compact' PS2 will hit the US at just $99 in the New Year - a reduction of $30 from its current selling price of $129," MCV said today.
"The new version has a built-in power supply for the first time in the console's history - allowing the platform holder to manufacture it more economically and sell it at the bargain price."
Assuming the source's accuracy, it would mark the second time that Sony would have redesigned the PS2, the first being in 2004 (pictured). Last week, the PS2 celebrated its seventh anniversary and 120 million unit sales worldwide.
Sony officials refused comment when contacted by MCV.
