Sony readies its 'largest ever' ad campaign for PS3

In what has become a crucial holiday season for the struggling PS3, Sony has mobilized its "largest ever" hardware promotion in conjunction with the release of the 40GB PS3 out Nov. 2.

"The games are here, the price is now $399, and we wanted to make the news loud and clear," said PlayStation's head of marketing, Peter Dille, in a statement addressing the new PS3 ads. "As we head into November we couldn't be more excited."

Dille says the new ads (launching this weekend) will focus on the the cheaper price, Blu-ray, and the PlayStation Network in addition to games. Additionally, he said the new TV spots are the "largest ever" of any PlayStation hardware promotion.

"I'd be remiss not to mention the highly-anticipated titles coming in 2008," the marketer added, "like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Grand Theft Auto IV, Killzone 2, SingStar, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4 and of course, Home. And rest assured, we have some secrets and many new games up our sleeves for 2008 as well."

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar So what do you think of the ad -- will it help sell mucho PS3s? I could be wrong, but the timing of Sony's "largest ever ad campaign" speaks volumes of how important this holiday is to the PS3.
