Report: 40GB PS3 runs quieter than current models

A new report published on Monday says there's more than just a $100 price drop in store for gamers planning to buy the upcoming 40GB PS3.

According to Computer Base of Germany, the $399 PS3 makes use of smaller, cooler running 65 nanometer Cell processor which results in reduced power consumption (135 watts down from 200) and external noise that the machine gives off.

The 40GB PS3, which excludes backwards compatibility of PS2 games, features two USB ports instead of four and is priced $100 cheaper than previous models. The new model hits North America on Nov. 2.
