Simpsons writers: Rockstar 'spazzed out like babies' over GTA parody

According to producer Matt Selman, Rockstar unfairly took offense with the "Grand Theft Scratchy" parody level included in the upcoming Simpsons Game.
"They spazzed out like little babies," Selman said in reference to the makers of Grand Theft Auto while speaking to Game Head. "They're supposed to be rockstars," producer Matt Warburton added. "That's not a big Rockstar move, to be afraid of The Simpsons making fun of their game."
The Simpsons Game (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP, PS2) features a parody level of Grand Theft auto called Grand Theft Scratchy in which a digitally-rendered Marge uses violence to rid Springville of video game violence.
"Thats called irony," Selman said in frustration before putting words into Rockstar's mouth. "We couldn't get our game out in time, so we're afraid that the gamers -who are not morons- are going to get confused by an Itchy and Scratchy poster of Grand Theft Scratchy - they're going to think that's the same thing as Grand Theft Auto."
Earlier this month, a Rockstar representative expressed concern over a "Grand Theft Scratchy" promotional poster used at the recent Leipzig Game Convention. According to Selman, EA lawyers have since been afraid to use the name Grand Theft Scratchy in promoting the game despite Rockstar's reputation of regularly including pop culture satire in many of its games.
