The movie industry faults an Xbox 360 game for the worst fall ticket sales in years.
According to Media by Numbers, box office receipts plunged 27 percent for the same period a year ago -- the worst performance for an October weekend in eight years.
Surprisingly, many film executives are blaming Halo 3 for the sticky floor fallout as the Xbox 360 shooter sold an impressive and record-breaking $300 million in first week sales.
"We marketed [Halo 3] like a film," said Josh Goldberg, a Microsoft product manager. "Now, we're just as big or bigger than film."
Not everyone believes that Halo 3 detained prospective movie goers, however. Mediocre reviews of several movies could have easily translated into poor film sales.
