U.S. military get free copies of Halo 3

Master Chief? Meet the REAL Marines.

According to the Associated Press, U.S. soldiers deployed to Iraq have already started blasting the Covenant to Kingdom Come with complimentary copies of Halo 3 thanks to Microsoft and Bungie

On Tuesday, the Redmond-based technology giant disclosed that it is in the process of shipping Xbox 360 consoles with copies of Halo 3 and Madden NFL 07 to USO centers around the world so the armed forces can enjoy some virtual downtime between real-life missions of life and death.

Soldiers will also have access to the Xbox Live service so they can talk with loved ones back in the States via the service's voice chat feature. Unfortunately for the G.I.'s, Microsoft and Bungie did not provide access to any of the futuristic weaponry featured in the Halo universe when they installed these online Xbox 360 stations, so standard-issue carbines will have to do for now.

Additionally, Microsoft said Tuesday that it will make contributions to America Supports You, a Department of Defense organization that connects soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan with support organizations in the United States.
