According to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony is developing at least seven PSP games for download from the PlayStation Store when the service launches for the handheld sometime next year.

A source close to SCEA reputedly told GamesIndustry.biz that Sony is working on three action games, two rhythm-games, one racing title, and a shooter game all developed internally. The PSP Store will also dish up classic PS1 games, demos, and additional content such as TV programming, trailers, and interviews.

"Downloadable games for the handheld will be between one half and one third of the size of the average UMD title, offering between two and ten hours of gameplay," reports GamesIndustry.biz.

Additionally, Sony is attempting to lure third-party publishers to the downloadable platform -- something that offers better margins for both the publisher and hardware maker by way of cutting out the retail middleman.

The PlayStation Store (via PC) for PSP first launched in Japan on September 20, 2007. The service arrives in the US this winter, followed by the fully-integrated PSP service in 2008.
