Sony details 40GB PlayStation 3 without U.S. date
- October 05, 2007 00:00 AM PST
Sony announced on Friday that it will begin selling a 40GB PS3 in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia starting October 10 for 399 euros.
Though identical to the 60GB PS3, here is the new 40GB model.
The now-confirmed 40GB PlayStation 3 is 100 bills cheaper, features two USB 2.0 ports instead of four, and no longer includes the multi memory card port as expected. Sadly for gamers, Sony has decidedly cut backwards compatibility of PS1 and PS2 titles from the machine in an effort to cut costs.
"The introduction of the new PS3 has been the result of extensive research into the entertainment needs and preferences of the next generation of PS3 owners," said David Reeves, president of PlayStation's European division -- the ones responsible for the announcement. "It has allowed us to deliver an extremely advanced, yet incredibly affordable High Definition gaming and entertainment system, configured to the needs of the next generation of European PS3 owners."
The 40 GB PS3 hits European territories October 10. A North American release date and price have yet to be revealed.
