Nintendo on Tuesday confirmed online multiplayer for the highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. Brawl on Wii.

Two online play modes will be supported, "with friends" and "with anyone." The first mode tracks wins and losses and allows for pre-programmable in-game taunts that are assigned to the directional pad. Unlike Xbox Live and PSN, Nintendo's Wi-Fi connection does not currently support voice chat.

"With anyone" protects the privacy of gamers only allowing melees without taunts or record tracking.

While waiting for opponents to link up with, a punching bag mini-game will be made available.

The online experience may vary across continents, however.

"Because this form of communication is greatly affected by the distance between you and your opponent, your brawls may not run smoothly if you're really far apart--like, for instance, if you're connecting between Japan and America," reads the game's official website.

"The more distant you are, the worse your connection becomes, and the slower it feels."

Super Smash Bros. Brawl launches December 3 for Wii.

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar Wii's on an online party announcement as of late. Good to hear. So are Wii owners more excited for Mario Galaxy, or Super Smash Bros.?
