Pay-for-ammo gambling shooter coming to PC this fall

Sick of game subscription fees? How about paying for in-game ammo instead? That's the concept behind Kwari, a new first-person shooter coming to PC later this year that lets players gamble for money by either taking or giving shots.

Pay to play, for ammo that is...

"Every time you hit another player in Kwari you make money. Every time you are hit by another player it costs you. Every shot counts," reads Kwari's official website which currently offers a public beta of the game.

Kwari is said to work like this: players freely download the title and setup a cash account. To enter an online match, they must first purchase ammo then set a pre-agreed stake level ranging from one cent to one dollar per hit. Players are then matched on the basis of skill, and the gambling begins. All money paid into the game by players is won out of the game by players says Kwari's publisher.

"Money changes everything," said Eddie Gill, founder and creator of Kwari. "The concept of playing for money is not a new one. However, these games tend to be an existing multiplayer game with a cash prize tagged on the end, much like clan tournaments, which means only a minority walk away with cash winnings - and usually a small amount at that."

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar Texas Hold 'Em meets first person shooters. Sounds intriguing, but how does this work? "All money paid into the game by players is won out of the game by players says Kwari's publisher." I'm guessing the publisher will tack on in-game ads for its cut. Either that or "volume" as they say.
