Haze playable with single gun, multiplayer will affect campaign mode

Ubisoft's Rob Yescombe scoops GamePro on some interesting Haze developments including the ability to play the entire game with a single gun, the Nectar effect, and online multiplayer support of up to 24 players.

"With Haze, we are giving people the opportunity to play the entire game with one weapon of choice," said Yescombe in an interview with GamePro (full transcript here). "This is only really possible because we have an extremely intelligent and adaptive A.I."

He added, "The main weapon isn't a gun. It is the use of Nectar."

Nectar is in-game pixie dust that enhances a player's abilities, although it can have devastating effects when used in excess. For example, users could visibly become incapable of distinguishing friend from foe due to an "overdose."

Yescombe also divulged that the game will feature 4-player co-op, online multiplayer support of up to 24 players, and the ability to alter the single player storyline when playing in multiplayer mode and vice versa.

"Events that occur in the multi-player game will change your perception of things that happen to you in the campaign mode and vice versa," Yescombe said. "It's almost like watching the deleted scenes on a DVD."

Despite an influx of several triple-A games this fall, Ubisoft still has high hopes for the game. "We want people to know that Haze will not be the standard FPS. It's going to blow some minds."

Haze launches on PS3 November 19 with an Xbox 360 and PC release following sometime in 2008.
