Manhunt 2 approved for sale with new "M" rating

Take-Two interactive said on Monday that the de facto banning of Manhunt 2 for Wii, PS2, and PSP has been reversed thanks to the game's new "Mature" rating awarded by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.

Rockstar's Manhunt 2 was originally awarded an "Adult Only" rating which -- while carrying no legal weight -- effectively bans any game on US consoles as Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony don't allow such titles on their platforms.

"Manhunt 2 is important to us, and we're glad it can finally be appreciated as a gaming experience," said Rockstar Sam Houser after his development team toned down the game's violence. Manhunt 2 centers around an insane asylum escapee that kills enemies in gruesome ways.

"Manhunt 2 is a powerful piece of interactive story telling that is a unique video game experience. We think horror fans will love it," Houser added.

The game will be release on Wii, PlayStation 2, and PSP just in time (and suitably) for Halloween on October 31. You can read our latest latest hands-on impression of the game here.
