Nintendo dominates July NPD sales

As expected, Nintendo maintained its dominance in North American hardware sales for the month of July according to NPD, only this time the Wii surpassed the DS for the first time since launching last November.

Official hardware numbers for July in North America were as follows:

1. Nintendo Wii: 425K
2. Nintendo DS: 405K
3. Sony PS2: 222K
4. Sony PSP: 214K
5. Microsoft Xbox 360: 170K
6. Sony PS3: 159K
7. Nintendo GBA: 87K

PS3 sales increased by 60 percent over June since dropping its price by $100 in mid July. By comparison, Wii sales increased 11 percent over June while Xbox 360 sales dropped nearly 15 percent during the same period.

And in case you needed any more convincing of how awesome your favorite hobby is, total sales this year are projected to rival the movie industry at $18 billion. We're in the money!
