Microsoft said on Thursday that pre-orders of the highly anticipated Halo 3 have exceeded 1 million in North America.

"You can't wait to play me, suckas..."

The company says the number formally breaks previous pre-order records in the video game industry.

Halo 3, the final game of the Halo trilogy, hits North American stores earlier than expected on September 25. The game is available in three editions: a regular version for $59, a special edition for $69 including added content, and a $129 "Legendary" edition featuring a life-size Master Chief mask.

"Our competition isn't other videogames. We put it on the plane with other entertainment launches, versus other game launches," a Microsoft represent told the Wall Street Journal in preparation for the game's launch.

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar Alright dudes and dudettes. Answer me this: Is Halo 3 the victim of too much hype or will it live up to expectations? Also, will you buy the game? If so, which one?
