DS, Wii continue to dominate US games sales

NPD Group, which tracks North American video games sales, released their June sales report on Monday. As has been customary in recent months, both the DS and Wii continue to dominate US hardware sales, though overall sales of both hardware and software were up last month.

All systems saw an increase in sales over the month of May, with the DS selling an impressive 562,000 units. Wii sales were up to 382,000 units, an increase of 13%. Xbox 360 sales increased by 28% over last month and PS3 sales were up by 21%. June totals ordered by units sold are as follows:

  1. DS - 562,000
  2. Wii - 382,000
  3. PSP - 290,000 (Updated)
  4. 360 - 198,000
  5. PS3 - 99,000

NPD also released the top 10 selling games for the first half of 2007, largely comprised of Nintendo titles as well. There are as follows (without exact numbers):

1. Pokemon Diamond (DS)
2. Wii Play (Wii)
3. Pokemon Perl (DS)
4. God of War II (PS2)
5. Guitar Hero II (PS2)
6. Guitar Hero II (360)
7. Mario Party 8 (Wii)
8. Crackdown (360)
9. Diddy Kong Racing (DS)
10. Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)

Total industry sales were up 43% over last year.

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar It's good to see growth all around, but the PS3 still couldn't crack the 100,000 barrier. Should be interesting to see if that lil $100 drop has an affect on July numbers when they are released next month. Regarding Nintendo's continued success... It's just that. Continued.
