Nintendo: Wii could eventually outsell the PS2

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said in a statement this week that Wii could surpass total PS2 sales given the former system's continued success.

"Sony's PS2 sales of 100 million units is an extraordinary number that our home game console business has not achieved," Iwata said. "But if we can make our bid to expand the gaming population a continued success, we could exceed that."
To date, Sony has shipped more than 120 million PS2 worldwide, an unprecedented and record number for home consoles. By comparison, the Wii has sold an estimated 9 million units to date.
Nintendo expects to sell another 10 million during the current business year to March 2008.
