Nintendo: PS3 price drop "won't make a difference"

Nintendo's Senior Vice President of Marketing George Harrison responded to Sony's PS3 price drop by saying the move will have little effect on sales of either the PS3 or Wii.

Harrison indicates that a $200 price cut would be needed to significantly boost sales of Sony's machine.

"A $100 price drop won't make a difference," Harrison was quoted as saying. "Can Sony afford a $200 price drop? I don't think so," he added.

As expected, the sales drop did increase initial sales at select online retailers yesterday, notably Amazon.com.

Some analysts, however, believe the cut will have little effective on long-term sales as a limited $499 PS3 was previously made available and later discontinued due to poor demand.

THE VERDICT by Blake Snow Blake Snow's Avatar Pile on the doubt, everyone. Even dropping prices, Sony still can't seem to catch a break with the PS3. However, did they really drop prices? The company is right back where they started at launch; one machine for $499 and another for $599. No?
